Registered in Thailand, recognised in Italy
Their own account of themselves, from their about page.
The Thai-Italian Chamber of Commerce (TICC), founded in 1978, is an independent, private, non-profit organization of Italian and Thai businessmen and professionals, duly constituted and registered in accordance with legislative regulations in Thailand and fully recognized by the Ministry of Economic Development and International Cooperation in Italy.
The Chamber constantly organizes activities, meetings, seminars, missions, and networking events to facilitate the promotion of economical, industrial and cultural collaborations.
The five purposes, as the chamber sets them out
The Chamber has various objectives, all of which are aimed not only at the promotion of “Made in Italy” in South East Asia, but also more importantly at the development of mutual cooperation and respect in the business environment, allowing positive economic flows.
- To assist Italian companies and other professional bodies who are either already established and/or planning to do business in Thailand or within the ASEAN region.
- To provide insights and advices on matters of trade, investment, finance and industry between Italy and Thailand or within South East Asia.
- To organize bilateral events/trade shows periodically, in the form of seminars, talks, missions, round table or business dinners, in order to promote interaction between subjects.
- To keep close contact with the Thai authorities, pressing issues when necessary.
- To support, represent, and protect the interests of the Members, both in Italy and Thailand.
Forty-eight years, a decade at a time
The chamber publishes its own history a decade at a time, and ends it with two rolls: every president since the five founders, and every secretary general since 1990. Both are reproduced here in their order and their spellings.
We are still a young Chamber and our membership not yet large, we are working hard to increase the Italian presence in Thailand and if we are successful, our increased size will reflect that.
Vittorio Nanni, Secretary General, interviewed in Business in Thailand, 1988- 1978
The Thai-Italian Chamber of Commerce was established. It was founded by five businessmen: Teddy Spha Palasthita, Giorgio Berlingeri, Luigi Margherita, Roberto Jotikasthira, and Massimo Bernardelli. At its inception, the sole purpose of the Thai-Italian Chamber was to provide a member-exclusive environment for a group of friends with similar interests.
- 1982
The Italian government recognized TICC as an organization. Officially, TICC became an organization consisting of private companies and local entrepreneurs, operating in compliance with by-laws set by its members and approved by the Thai Ministry of Commerce, as well as endorsed by Assocamerestero.
- 1986
Martin Albani assumed the role of President. During his presidency the number of members started to drastically increase, and the headquarters moved to the Chokdai Building on Sukhumvit Soi 24: for the first time, the Chamber occupied an office of its own.
- 1990
The office moved again, to the heart of Bangkok’s central business district, the Vanit building. The Chamber has been there ever since. Angelo Cucchi held the title of Secretary General, a position he left in 2004.
- 1997
Instead of the usual business networking events, the Chamber hosted a one of a kind fashion show. Brands such as Valentino, Prada, and Benetton all partook in the famous Italian Fashion Show, at the Ballroom of the Hyatt Hotel. The event was noted to have been so packed that people stood in queues just to enter.
- 2005
Giovanni De Fiumi moved the headquarters to the 16th Floor of Vanit Building II, the floor the Chamber still gives as its address.
- 2011
TICC expanded its presence in Thailand by opening another chapter in Phuket. In their own words at that point in its history: “Today, there are over 160 members of TICC and the organization continues to actively serve all members throughout Thailand.”
- 2017
The Chamber launched the Gems & Jewelry Committee, aimed at fostering cooperation and creating business opportunities within the jewelry sector.
- 2019
The Chamber introduced the EduHub, a platform designed to support students, professionals, and scholars, offering guidance on educational opportunities, language courses and career development programs.
